I threw a G.I. JOE party the other day.

It was unbelievable.

My house was adorned with some of the toys I played with as a child.

I had to stop by my folks house and dig everything out of storage.

Imagine this…

Jets on the counter next to the stove. Stealth bombers parked near the sink ready for take off.

A hang glider patrolling above the beverages. Several tanks hiding behind the knife set, napkin holder and wood box.

Armored vehicles ready for battle were deployed on the fireplace, buffet, and kitchen floor.

Snow jeeps were lined down my entry way hall.

I displayed old G.I. JOE comics my grandma gave for my 13th birthday party all over my kitchen and living room.

In my DVD & VCR player I had the G.I. JOE TV SHOW playing, as G.I. JOE THE MOVIE on VHS was waiting to be brought to life later on that night.

And not to mention G.I. JOE THE VIDEO GAME for regular Nintendo hooked up to the TV as well.

That corner of my living room was a electronic puddle steaming full of clean wholesome 1980’s Hasbro fun.

On the other end of my house I set aside a room especially to build a diorama depicting the final battle between JOE and COBRA.

My mother who I love dearly, made potato salad, jo joe’s, and cinnamon rolls for my guests.

As I cooked the buffalo wings.

The night was full of reliving memories, and enjoying the past we left behind.

Jeremy even showed up dressed as the original G.I. JOE action figure (no gun though).

After we ate all the wings and had our fill of cinnamon rolls, we were going to watch the movie but I didn’t have any popcorn.

So we decided to venture out of the house and pick some up at the store in town.

Now a regular group of friends might carpool. Or just send one person to pick up the corn.

But not us…

We had skateboards and bikes to get us to our destination.

Sure it was getting dark, but that was all part of the fun.

So like city hooligans, we cruised, stopping bye the park for a bit. And then meeting up with some familiar faces at a near by restaurant.

The night was alive.

We were out only for a bit, but the freedom we all felt as we took to the streets was so much fun.

After picking up the popcorn and returning home at close to 11pm, most everyone had to get home.

David, Jeremy, Johnny and I ended up destroying the G.I. JOE diorama in what must have been a 20 minute non stop blood massacre.

Ending with a heap of maimed action figures and crushed vehicles we decided to make a stop animation video, check it out.

After that David and I ate popcorn and watched the movie.

It was splendid.

The perfect ending to the perfect G.I. JOE party.
